It has been an extremely busy week with UKAS, the UK’s National Accreditation Body sending a team of auditors across four days to conduct our first full reassessment of our entire suite of accredited tests. The visit was successful due to the hard work of all involved which is why we would like to credit our amazing staff for their dedication throughout!

We attended the St. Helens Chamber Business Awards at Langtree Park which saw one of our apprentices, Callum Hunking, make the final 5 in the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ competition. On the night TD were recognised by St. Helens Chamber Chief Executive Kath Boullen for our commitment to developing our staff and awarded a certificate by Former St. Helens R.F.C and England International Jon Wilkin.
Today marks the start of a new chapter for us. Once a new name in the geotechnical/materials testing industry we have had 3 consecutive years of growth. In the last year we have experienced a substantial increase in clients, contract wins and workload which highlighted the need to move to a larger premises. As part of a strategic review it was the decision of the directors for TD to purchase Gerard Hall, once a Community Hall, Nightclub and Gym situated on Lord Street in St. Helens. The 20,000 sq ft site will start a new life as a Materials Testing Laboratory, representing a huge upgrade in space and we are excited to see how the building develops over the coming years. – SIC PARVIS MAGNA
Doha Metro Red Line North and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) proudly marked the final TBM breakthrough and UK contribution to the works in Qatar. The Doha Metro System project is approximately 13km in length and required the excavation of 2,500,000m3 of material and won the Qatar Sustainability Awards 2017 and in 2018 won the RoSPA Silver Award for its strong health and safety performance in 2017, qualifying as one of the projects with the best practices in its sector. We provided QA/QC assistance for the concrete works including supplier approvals and production inspections. This goes to shows our technical excellence is not only recognised nationally but internationally as well. We are becoming renowned for being able to provide our clients with what they want, right first time by working in a partnership with them. Tom Robinson (Managing Director) said “we aim to provide all our clients with high quality services designed to meet their specific requirements whilst at all times striving to exceed their expectations”.
In the winter of 2015-2016, storms Desmond and Eva caused severe floods across the UK during a record breaking December. TD were employed to help with emergency repairs in one such area, Croston in Lancashire. It required emergency repair work to be carried out to ensure the safety of the village and surrounding areas. The works were lead by the Environment Agency and recognised by the Prime Minister The Rt Hon David Cameron and we are pleased to have played our part in providing essential testing services for this vital scheme.
We are now an approved Constructionline member. The industry requires compliance from its supply chain across numerous aspects, quality, health and safety and the environment. The Constructionline platform allows buyers within our industry to simplify and speed up their search, validation and purchasing decision processes considerably, improving resource and cost efficiency as well. We aim to conduct our business to the highest standards in respect of Quality, Health & Safety and the Environment and this is further evidence of the great work our team here are doing.
We are now an Approved Tester and Associate Member of the Construction Fixings Assocation (CFA). This further proves our commitment to working to the highest standards of quality and safety.

We are delighted to announce that we are now a UKAS accredited testing laboratory (Certificate No. 8011) to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005! An internationally recognised standard that provides our clients and potential customers with confidence in our technical competence. UKAS is recognised and accepted globally and accreditation provides independent assurance that our staff are competent and our laboratory has the ability to produce precise, accurate tests and data.

It was an easy decision to make when you have one of the largest and most successful Chambers of Commerce in the UK on our doorstep. We are pleased to announce that we have decided to base our laboratory in St. Helens at Unit 15, Gerards Park. The decision was taken based on the area being perfectly situated near multiple road and motorway networks, allowing us to serve not only the North West but the whole of the UK. The keys have been received for our first official home and we have taken out an initial 3 year lease, we plan on growing and expanding and we will have to continue to measure the business’ progress over the next 3 years.
